Tooth-Colored Fillings

Tooth-colored cavity repairs designed to blend with your natural teeth.

Repairing a cavity with composite

What Are They?

Tooth-colored fillings use composite resin, a material that bonds to your tooth and can be shaded to blend with it. Composite can repair suitable cavities, chips, and small fractures. The best material depends on the size and location of the repair and the remaining tooth structure.

What to expect

The Process
1

Comfortable Numbing

We use local anesthetic to keep you comfortable. You may feel pressure; tell us if you feel discomfort so we can pause and adjust.

2

Decay Removal

The cavity is cleaned out conservatively, keeping every bit of healthy tooth we can.

3

Layered Bonding

Composite is placed in thin layers, each cured with a special light, and shaped to your natural anatomy.

4

Polish and Bite Check

We polish the filling to a natural sheen and fine-tune your bite. Eat normally as soon as the numbness fades.

Common questions about fillings

How long do composite fillings last?
Typically more than 7 years, depending on size, location, and home care — and often longer with frequent dental checkups and professional cleanings, which catch wear early.
Will my filling be sensitive afterward?
Mild temperature sensitivity can occur after a filling. If it persists, worsens, or affects your bite, call us so we can check the tooth and identify the cause.
Are tooth-colored fillings covered by insurance?
Your plan may help cover fillings. We’ll check your benefits, any approval requirements, and your estimated share before treatment.
