Dental Insurance and Membership Plans: What to Compare

Compare premiums or membership fees, included care, treatment limits, and expected costs. The better fit depends on your coverage and dental needs.

Dental insurance and an in-house membership work differently. Insurance pays benefits under a policy; a membership provides specified services and treatment discounts at one practice. Comparing the full cost and terms of each option can help you decide what fits your needs.

What to Check in an Insurance Policy

Check whether your policy has waiting periods for particular services, annual maximums on benefits, or pre-approvals for certain treatment. A missing-tooth clause, if present, may limit benefits for replacing a tooth lost before coverage began. These terms vary by plan. Also compare premiums, deductibles, network rules, and the share of treatment costs you would pay.

How a membership plan works

Our in-house membership plan is available to uninsured patients and is not insurance. Each option includes specified preventive services, with visit limits, plus 15% off eligible additional treatment under the plan terms. All-on-X treatment is excluded from the discount. Membership dues are paid annually. A $99 activation fee applies per person at initial enrollment. It is not charged at regular renewal while membership continues; cancellation followed by rejoining requires another $99 activation fee. Review the listed services, eligibility, renewal, cancellation, and price-change terms before enrolling.

Which Option Fits Your Needs?

A membership may be worth considering if you do not have dental insurance and expect to use the included care at this practice. If you have an insurance option, compare its full benefits and costs, including any employer contribution, before making a change. We can check our participation in your specific plan and help you understand estimated benefits; neither option is best for everyone.
